Hooray for summertime in Minnesota! It’s finally here. A Minnesota summer always fills up fast with lakes, parks, camping trips, and all the free things we love doing with kids. But there’s one experience that belongs on the “at least once this summer” list if you can make it happen: a Minnesota Twins game at Target Field.
It’s not just a baseball game — it’s a full summer night (or afternoon) out. The energy, the crowd, the food, the views of downtown Minneapolis, and the little moments in between all come together in a way that feels like a true Minnesota tradition.
And the good news? It can actually be more affordable than most families expect.

A True Minnesota Summer Experience
There are a lot of things to do with kids in the summer, but few that feel like a full experience from start to finish.
A Twins game is one of those rare outings where:
- you’re not rushing from activity to activity
- kids are engaged the entire time without needing a structured itinerary
- parents actually get to relax and enjoy it too
- the whole family is doing the same thing at the same time
From walking into Target Field to hearing the crowd react to a big play, it feels like stepping into a shared moment with thousands of people. Even if your kids don’t follow baseball closely, there’s always something happening — music, movement, cheering, scoreboard games, mascots, and of course, that classic ballpark energy.
For kids especially, it feels like a big night out — not just another summer activity.

Food can be picked up at Mill City Grill in Section 324.
I love that the Twins offer a section designed specifically with families in mind.

It’s one of the easiest “family outing” setups of the week if you’re looking for something that feels fun but still relaxed.

The Twins Community Fund Youth Clinics (Free All Summer)
Another thing that makes the Twins organization stand out is their commitment to kids beyond just game days.
The Twins Community Fund hosts free youth baseball and softball clinics all summer long across Minnesota and the Upper Midwest!

These clinics are:
- completely free for kids
- open to ages 6–12
- beginner-friendly
- focused on fun and fundamentals
Kids get hands-on instruction in:
- hitting
- throwing
- fielding
- teamwork
- basic game skills
And families only need to bring:
- a glove
- water bottle
These clinics are part of a long-running program that’s been connecting kids to baseball and softball for more than 60 years, reaching 50+ communities across Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
What I Really Love: The Sensory-Friendly Space
One thing that stood out to me while learning more about Target Field is the UnitedHealthcare Sensory Suite.
This is a dedicated space for fans who need a calmer, quieter environment during games. It’s available free to any fan attending a game with a valid ticket, which I think is amazing.
It’s a great example of how the Twins are thinking about making the ballpark more accessible and welcoming for all families.
As a parent, I really appreciate when big venues include spaces like this — it makes experiences like a game feel more doable for more families.
Parking Tips
There are many parking ramps in the area, but the primary ones used for Twins games are ramps A, B, and C.
We usually use Ramp C because it tends to be easier to get in and out of, even though it’s a slightly farther walk to the stadium.
If you’re looking to save money, there are often cheaper parking options if you’re willing to walk a little farther. I also recommend using the SpotHero app to compare prices ahead of time.
Tips for Saving Money at a Minnesota Twins Game

- Arrive early for activities and promotions
Final Thoughts
There are a lot of free and low-cost things to do with kids in Minnesota – many of which I’ve posted about for years – but there are very few that feel like a true shared experience the whole family remembers afterward.
A Minnesota Twins game at Target Field easily blends:
- family time
- summer tradition
- city energy
- and simple fun
Whether you go for a weekday game, a fireworks night, or just a spontaneous summer evening, it’s one of those experiences that feels like “this is what summer in Minnesota is supposed to look like.”
If you go, I’d love to hear what your family thinks — and I’ll continue sharing more Twins tips, deals, and summer ideas as the season goes on.
