Did you know that there are different things on sale each month of the year?
I have a Month to Month Shopping Guide that lists the best items to buy each month to save money!
Here I am highlighting the best items to buy this month!
December is the best time to buy:
Baking items – Last month these went on sale for Thanksgiving and are still on sale for the holiday baking season
Thanksgiving clearance – many items that are decorative for fall and Thanksgiving are on clearance now
Gift cards! Retailers are pushing any sales they can get for last-minute shoppers, and there are deals. Target has offered 10% off Target gift cards the first weekend of December for the past few years and is offering this again December 6-7.
Cough and cold medicine, facial tissues
Cars: Car dealers are more open to a bargain before the end of the year to boost sales numbers
Toys, electronics and much more are on sale for Christmas shopping season
Photo deals! Check out Shutterstock, Walgreens and others for great photo deals as everyone is wanting those photo holiday cards and gifts.
Wait until after Christmas for:
Christmas items – shop the day after Christmas for gift wrap, cards, storage for all your decorations
Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works semi-annual sales! These typically take place right after Christmas and in June.
Special days in December:
Decenber 1st is National Pie Day – watch for pie deals!
December 4th is National Cookie Day – look for cookie sales!
December 6th is Saint Nicholas Day! In our family the kids would put a shoe in the window and Saint Nicholas would come at night and “fill” it with goodies. Does your family do this?
December 7th is National Illinois Day – we loved our visit in the Quad Cities which are on the border of Iowa and Illinois! Read about our trip here.
December 9th is Christmas Card Day – create your own Christmas Tree Pop-Up card here!
December 13th is National Cocoa Day! Make these homemade Hot Cocoa Bombs:
December 14th is National Alabama Day. Plan a trip to Gulf Shores! That’s where my husband and I went on our honeymoon! Read my article: 12 Unique Things to Do in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, Alabama.
December 15th is National Cupcake Day! Here’s a fun recipe for Disney Encanto inspired cupcakes:
December 30th is National Bacon Day!

What NOT to Buy Right Now:
Winter clothing. Now these items are in demand, so prices are higher, with the exception of some deals. But if you can, wait until January for new items. HOWEVER – you CAN get great deals on used or like new winter items at thrift stores AND at kids consignment sales like Just Between Friends.
Home goods. These were just on sale for Black Friday and will likely dip down again in January. January is also when most stores run “white sales” on towels, bedding and other fluffy goods for the home.
Exercise equipment and gym memberships (except at the end of the month). Sure, you may be starting to pack on the cold-weather pounds (I sure feel like I am!). But January is when the best prices are for anything having to do with fitness. If you want to get in shape now, check out my guide, Hot Deals to Help You Lose Weight. For example:
Want a fitness deal? Sign up for a Get Healthy U TV premium membership for only $1.49 for a FULL YEAR right now!!! I have a membership and I LOVE IT!
Discount Days
Presidents Day – discounts on clothing, shoes and home items at thrift stores like Savers and Unique Thrift Stores
