
Every year there are many fun places to visit in the Twin Cities this Mother’s Day weekend where moms and grandmas get in FREE. This year is a little different with many businesses closed for COVID-19, but there are still fun, free (and cheap) things to do! Here are some I could find! (Check back for updates!)
FREE & DISCOUNTED MOTHER’S DAY FUN IN THE TWIN CITIES!
Como-Harriet Streetcar Line. Moms ride free on Sunday, May 10th (12:30 – 8:30pm). The Como-Harriet Streetcar Line is located southwest of downtown Minneapolis. It operates between Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska (Lake Calhoun).
Create Joy DIY Studio – Free Virtual Family Paint Party! Sunday from 2-4pm. Happy Mother’s Day! Looking for something to do with Mom? Let’s get the family together and create a fun painting!!
Fishing – It’s Take-a-Mom Fishing Weekend! Moms can fish free without a license this weekend both Saturday and Sunday. During the weekend, mothers can fish only for species that have open fishing seasons. (For residents of Minnesota.)
Free Roses – Drive By Roses for Mother’s Day. Saturday 10-1. 360 Financial, 849 Lake St E, Wayzata, MN 55391. Starting at 10 am on May 9, drive by their office to pick up a free rose. No need to get out of your car.
Friends School Plant Sale – Normally at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, this year due to COVID they’ve made some adjustments. Stop by from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. OUTSIDE in front of Friends School of Minnesota, 1365 Englewood Avenue in Saint Paul, a few blocks east of Hamline University and Snelling Avenue. They have 12″ fiber baskets for $25 each ($4.00 less than they were going to sell them at the sale). For health and safety, customers will drive through on the street without leaving their cars. (You can also walk through). Payment will be at the time of pickup by credit card only. About the sale: With more than 2,450 plant varieties. this may be the largest plant sale in the U.S. It’s a fund-raising event sponsored by the Friends School of Minnesota, a small Quaker K – 8 school in the Hamline-Midway area in Saint Paul.
Landmark Center – 1:00 – 3:00pm. The 33rd annual Mother’s Day concert has been canceled, but Landmark Center will share previously recorded clips from past concerts the public can enjoy from the comfort of their homes. It’s still the perfect way to spend the day with the mothers in your life. Seats are unlimited, so share with everyone you love!
Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Sunday, May 10th is this month’s Family Day at the MIA from 11:00 – 5:00. The entire event is free. This year it will all be VIRTUAL. The theme is “Stories of Resilience.”
Minnesota Zoo – Unfortunately, the zoo is closed due to COVID. Admission for moms had been free in previous years. BUT, this year they have Farm Babies online for FREE! They also have other at-home programming.
Mother’s Day Parade – Sunday from 10:30am – 11:30am. New Perspective Minnetonka, 500 Carlson Pkwy, Minnetonka. Residents will be viewing and enjoying the parade from their windows along the parade route (see event posts for route details). Thank you for making Mother’s Day extra special this year!
Omnifest at the Science Museum – This is a great weekend to watch a FREE Omnimax film in your home! Check it out.

T-Rex Cookie Truck. Saturday from 1-3pm. 3550 Johnson St NE, Minneapolis, MN. The T-Rex 🦖🍪 cookie truck at the shop for Mother’s Day.
