Minnesota State Fair: Tasty Foods & Brews at the Hangar
Minnesota State Fair time is here and I returned to the Hangar on the north end for some tasty food sampling!
The Hangar, which is at the northeast corner of Murphy Ave. and Underwood St., hosts live musicians, and serves tasty foods and beverages including beer flights. I tried their foods last year and was excited to return before the fair opened this year!
Some of my favorites were back:
The Island Hopper – it’s half a pineapple with charbroiled chicken, pineapple, rice, and green onions. This was still my favorite
Fries – these are $8 for a basket, or only $5 when added to a meal
The Wingwalker – donut holes with 3 dipping sauces- Bavarian Creme, chocolate custard and Minnesota lingonberry. I couldn’t pick one favorite…
Plus these were some I hadn’t tried before:
Sausage Waffle Dog on a Stick – A satisfying sausage and waffle you can dip in syrup!
Slider Flights – smoked brisket, pulled pork and cheeseburger. I’d say the pulled pork was my favorite but they’re all good.
There’s a lot more on their menu too! Be sure to check out the kids menu. Kids meals are only $8 and include a side and drink.
The Hangar features many local brews including several new ones this year:
C-Plane Citrus Blonde from Excelsior Brewing (Excelsior, MN)
Pineapple Sour Beergarita from Mankato Brewery (North Mankato, MN)
Strawberry Short Cake’d Up from Mankato Brewery (North Mankato, MN)
I tried a flight that included these new flights. I’m not a huge beer drinker, but the Strawberry Short Cake’d Up was pretty tasty and sweet!
There’s a lot more to choose from too.
My husband’s favorite was the Fulton Hop Kingdom IPA.
Did you know the Hangar was once an actual airplane hangar?
What I like about it is that it’s in a quieter area of the fair. It can certainly get busy here too, but is at the north edge of the fair where at least you’re not right in the middle of the action.

What are your favorite foods at the Hangar?
Disclosure: I was invited to a complimentary tasting to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% mine.
