A FREE “Trip Around the World” in the Twin Cities (Perfect for Kids!)!
If you’re looking for something to do with the kids this April, The International School of Minnesota in Eden Prairie is hosting their International Day 2026 on Saturday, April 18th from 11:00am – 3:00pm, and it’s one of those events that’s actually worth getting everyone out the door for.
And if you know me, you know I LOVE finding events like this—something fun, different, and doesn’t cost a fortune (or anything at all)!

What is International Day?
International Day is a super kid-friendly, low-stress way to “travel” the world… without leaving the Twin Cities.
This annual event brings families together to celebrate cultures from around the globe with live performances, interactive cultural rooms, hands-on activities, and (of course) international food—all designed so kids can explore at their own pace.
It’s a fun, relaxed way to introduce your kids to different cultures—and you don’t have to spend a dime to enjoy most of it!
Event Details
- Saturday, April 18, 2026
- 11:00am – 3:00pm (doors open at 10:45am)
- ISM Campus, 6385 Beach Road, Eden Prairie
Highlights You Won’t Want to Miss
Parade of Nations + Performances (start at 11:00am)
This is the kind of thing that actually keeps kids’ attention—lots of color, music, and movement.
There’s a Parade of Nations where students wear traditional outfits and carry flags (so cool to see), followed by performances like:
- Dancing from Egypt and Colombia
- French music
- Hawaiian-style music and hula
Plus, typically there will be opportunities for kids to get on stage with the performers! (Great photo opp, parents!)
💡 Mom tip: If your kids will enjoy this, try to get there right when doors open so you don’t miss it.
International Café (12:30–2:30pm)
While the event itself is free, you may want to bring a few dollars if you plan to sample the food.

Menu highlights include:
- French beef stew (beef bourguignon)
- Mahi Mahi Fish tacos
- Falafel
- Colombian street food like Chicken Chuzo and Cachapas
It’s a fun, low-pressure way for kids to try something new—and perfect for sharing a few dishes together!
Global Discovery Rooms (12:15–3:00pm)
This is the part I think a lot of kids will spend the most time in!
Kids can “travel” from country to country as classrooms transform into immersive cultural experiences.
Each country has its own space with:
- Hands-on activities
- Things to touch, try, and explore
- A little “passport” experience (which kids LOVE)
Featured countries include Colombia, Cambodia, Egypt, France, and the United States.
Explorer Experience Zones (12:15–3:00pm)
This is where things get extra fun (and very kid-approved):
- Try robotics
- Do virtual reality experiences
- Take fun photos
- Even try reading from a teleprompter
Basically, there are lots of interactive stuff so no one gets bored.

Why Twin Cities Families Should Check It Out
As a mom, I’m always looking for things that are:
✔️ Affordable (or free!)
✔️ Easy to attend
✔️ Worth the effort of getting everyone ready
And this checks all the boxes.
It’s indoors (no worries about weather), there’s enough to do for a few hours, and you can leave whenever your kids hit their limit.

Pro Tips Before You Go
- Arrive early if you want a good spot for the parade and performances
- Bring cash or a card for food purchases
- Plan to stay at least 2–3 hours to experience everything
- Invite friends! This is an easy group outing
Final Thoughts
It’s not every day you can take your kids on a “trip around the world” for free—especially without leaving the metro.
If you’re in or near Twin Cities, this is a fun, meaningful, and budget-friendly way to spend a Saturday together!
