
In years past there were fun places to visit in the Twin Cities on Mother’s Day weekend where moms and grandmas get in FREE. This year there are mostly events that are free for everyone! Of course, you could be like me and be just fine napping in bed all day! But if you’re looking for family fun, here are some ideas:

Doors Open Minneapolis is happening this weekend, May 13th – 14th, and many buildings are open to explore for free.
No Coast Craft-o-Rama Spring Show at Midtown Global Market. Saturday. 10:00 – 4:00pm. Midtown Global Market, Minneapolis. Shop with your moms and friends, or just shop for them!

Mother’s Day Make & Take! Saturday at 10:00am. All Fleet Farm locations. FREE KIDS ACTIVITY! Plant a flower in a pot for a Mother’s Day take-home gift! Stop in on May 13th from 10am – 2pm!
Como-Harriet Streetcar Line. Moms ride free on Sunday, May 14th (12:30 – 8:30pm).
Como Zoo. Free! No reservations needed.
Mother’s Day Bonsai Show. 10:00am – 6:00pm. May 13 & 14. Como Zoo & Conservatory, St. Paul.
Fishing – It’s Take-a-Mom Fishing Weekend! Moms can fish free without a license this weekend both Saturday and Sunday. During the weekend, mothers can fish only for species that have open fishing seasons. (For residents of Minnesota.)
Landmark Center – Sunday, 1:00pm – 3:00pm. The annual Mother’s Day Saint Paul Civic Symphony concert is back, and is the perfect way to spend time with the mothers in your life. Free.
Walker Art Center. Sunday is Sensory Friendly Sunday from 8:00am – 11:00am. Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. Sensory Friendly Sunday is a monthly free event designed for kids, teens, and adults with sensory processing differences, autism spectrum disorder, or developmental disabilities.
Sales & Shopping
Friends School Plant Sale – May 12-14. Minnesota State Fair Grandstand. The Friends School Plant Sale is a fund-raiser for the Friends School of Minnesota, a small Quaker K – 8 school in Saint Paul. This three-day sale, almost entirely run by volunteers, offers more than 2,100 plant varieties at affordable prices.
Hennepin Technical College Plant Sale. May 11-13. Hennepin Technical College. Hennepin Tech Plant Sale features multiple greenhouses that are bursting with annuals, perennials, herbs, veggies, hanging baskets and colorful container gardens. Perfect Mother’s Day gifts. Proceeds support student scholarships. May 11, 12, and 13.
Minneapolis Farmer’s Market and St. Paul Farmer’s Market are open! They’re both open Saturdays and Sundays now.
Other Ideas for Fun (Not Free)
SpringFest 2023. Saturday, May 13th from 10:00am – 2:00pm. Eastman Nature Center, Dayton. Swing into spring at SpringFest 2023 with live music, food and seasonal activities for all ages. Register in advance.
Check out a nature center, park, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary (free but parking is not).
