Do you like to explore Minneapolis buildings and businesses? Have you ever wondered what they look like behind the scenes?
Doors Open Minneapolis is BACK in May 2023 and you can do all of this and more for FREE!
Doors Open Minneapolis started in 2019, but didn’t return in 2020 due to the pandemic. It was created by a historic preservation nonprofit organization called Rethos, and “provides a unique chance to explore the buildings that tell a city’s story.”
But it’s back this year on May 13th and 14th (that’s Mother’s Day Weekend)!
“We are so excited to bring back this city-wide celebration after its debut in 2019,” said Kelly Fischer,
heritage tourism manager for Rethos. “Doors Open Minneapolis attracted more than 17,000 visitors to
more than 100 venues all across the city. This year we expect to be even bigger!” she added.
Some of the venues will include The Dayton’s Project, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, Peavey Plaza, Upper St.
Anthony Falls Lock and Dam, Xcel Energy Nicollet Island Power Plant, and so many more special places.
There are a ton of places that I’ve never even heard of – like Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul, BLIND, Incorporated, the Dayton’s Project, and Brick x Mortar.
You can see the full list here!
“Minneapolis has gone through a tough couple of years, it’s true. But the city I love is on the upswing
again,” said Mayor Jacob Frey. “We are not aiming to return to the old normal. In fact, we are going to
blast right through the old normal to something even better. Doors Open Minneapolis is an excellent way
to showcase so many of the positive things happening downtown and in our varied neighborhoods. I’m
excited and you should be, too!”
The event is May 13th and 14th in Minneapolis from 10:00am – 5:00pm each day, but each venue’s hours vary.
