Como Zoo. Always free (though donations are welcome). Enjoy the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory’s Mother’s Day Bonsai Show as well as the Summer Flower Show Saturday and Sunday.
Como-Harriet Streetcar Line. Moms ride free on Sunday, May 13th (12:30 – 8:30pm).
Crayola Experience. Mall of America. This Sunday, May 13, all moms will receive FREE admission, with the purchase of a child’s admission. Regular admission to Crayola Experience is $20.99 at the door or $17.99 online. Children under 3 are free. However, you can get tickets for only $13.99 EVERY DAY via my special link! (Note that their prices have gone up from $19.99/$15.99 since last year yet I still have tickets available for $13.99 as always!!)
Fishing – It’s Take-a-Mom Fishing Weekend! Moms can fish free without a license this weekend both Saturday and Sunday. (For residents of Minnesota.)

Friends School Plant Sale – Friday to Sunday at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds! With more than 2,450 plant varieties. this may be the largest plant sale in the U.S. It’s a fund-raising event sponsored by the Friends School of Minnesota, a small Quaker K – 8 school in the Hamline-Midway area in Saint Paul.
Landmark Center – Saint Paul Civic Symphony Annual Mother’s Day Concert. Landmark Center, Musser Cortile; Sunday at 1:00 pm. Free. The Saint Paul Civic Symphony always sells out their Mother’s Day concert as the music chosen for this event is always popular. Bring your family for a beautiful and heartfelt concert
Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Sunday, May 13th is this month’s Family Day at the MIA from 11:00 – 5:00. The entire event is free! The theme is “Cardboard Creations.”
Minnesota Zoo – Moms get in free on Sunday, May 13th thanks to Macy’s. Plus, special offers: 20% off regular price apparel at the gift store, BOGO admission at the Great Clips IMAX Theater, and FREE cookie for mom with purchase of a coffee at the Penguin Café and Wild Java on Sunday, May 13. (Limited income families get free admission every day – more here.)
MAMMA MIA Mother’s Day Sing-Along – On Sunday at 10:00am at the Marcus Southbridge Crossing in Shakopee you are invited to a free sing-along screening of MAMMA MIA! Celebrate Mother’s Day, the 10th Anniversary of MAMMA MIA and the upcoming release of MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN all at once! Totally FREE but limited tickets available. Tickets available starting at 9:00 a.m. (1 hour before the show). This is first-come-first-served, maximum 2 tickets per customer. Don’t wait, stop in now to pick up your tickets! Mother’s Day Wildflower Walk – At the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden in Minneapolis, celebrate Mother’s Day at the Garden with a walk through a flower garden on Sunday at 11:00am! Join a garden naturalist on a wildflower focused walk in the Garden. Learn about and look for wildflowers of spring including trilliums, trout lilies, bluebells and more.
Oliver H. Kelley Farm – Moms get in free Saturday and Sunday (10-5 both days) when accompanied by a child. Check out my review with photos here. Explore the Kelley Farm as it springs to life on Mother’s Day Weekend. Help plant seeds in the gardens, harvest the first spring greens, and meet the baby animals on the historic farmstead and at the Farm Lab Barn. And be sure to see what’s cooking in the historic farmhouse and the Learning Kitchen in the visitor center. (Fees $6-9) (Limited income families get discounted admission every day – more here.)
Three Rivers Park District. The Three Rivers Park District is offering various fun events for moms. Many are free, though a few are paid. For example:
- American Stories and Dolls at the Lowry Nature Center (Saturday, 12:30 – 2:30pm) $5.00
- Geocaching for Smores at French Regional Park (Saturday, 1:00 – 3:00pm) $8:00
- It’s 1889 and I Do Not Have a Things to Wear! at The Landing (Saturday, 1:00 – 4:00) $12:00
- Mother’s Day Photo Booth at Eastman Nature Center (Sunday 1:00 – 4:00pm) FREE
- Mother’s Day Weekend Tree Planting at Spring Lake Regional Park (Saturday, 9:00am – 12:00pm) FREE
- Wildflowers and Watercolors at Lowry Nature Center (Sunday, 2:30 – 4:30pm) $5
Valleyfair Opening Day! – Valleyfair is opening on Friday, May 11th, just in time for Mother’s Day weekend! Be one of the first to ride on the brand new Delirious! Plus, it’s also the perfect day to activate your child’s 2018 Pre-K Pass, offering FREE admission for children ages 3-5 for the entire 2018 season. Simply register online, activate at the park and come play!
Vehicle Fair – On Saturday, May 12th from 10:00am – 12:00pm, enjoy a FREE Vehicle Fair at the City of Crystal – Recreation Department, 4800 Douglas Dr N, Crystal, Minnesota 55429. Though not Mother’s Day specific, there will be a wide variety of trucks and cars to explore and it’s FREE! Great family event, plus there will be food trucks!
The Works Museum (Bloomington) – Moms and Grandmas receive FREE ADMISSION on Mother’s Day weekend, 5/11 – 5/13. ALSO, May is Member Month – members get special perks all month (extra discounts, etc.) plus they’re offering $10 off a new or renewing membership with code MAYRENEW.
