Legos, robotics, learning and FUN – all in one place? YES, please!
My son and his friends are RAVING about a new place for kids in the Twin Cities. It’s called Snapology, and it all offers LEGO-themed classes, camps and birthday parties, as well as workshops and events!
What is Snapology?
As I shared in a post this summer, Snapology offers hands-on activities for children ages 1-14 using LEGO® bricks, K’Nex and technology. They create STEM learning experiences (and fun!) through:
- Camps
- Workshops
- Field Trips
- Enrichment Classes
- Birthday Parties
- Custom Events
- Play Dates
- Scouting Events
- Parents Night Out
- Anti-Bullying Programs
- Assemblies
They even do corporate team building and corporate meeting facilitation.
Snapology of Minneapolis has been around for the past year or so, offering events and birthday parties at different sites around the metro, but now have a permanent site at 2649 Lyndale Avenue in South Minneapolis. They just celebrated their grand opening in November, and have already been busy with workshops and birthday parties at their cool new site. Check out their website and Facebook page for more info and their full schedule.
Here is the Discovery Center, filled with LEGOS and many other toys for building and exploration!
There is so much for all ages – toys for the smallest tots through ages 14, and boys and girls alike.
And…my son is super lucky to be the FIRST to have a birthday party at the new site in Minneapolis!
My son just turned 7 this fall, and because he and all his friends love LEGOs, Snapology was the perfect place to celebrate!
But his party was about much more than LEGOs. It was actually a robotics party where he and all his friends got to build LEGO helicopters and bring them to life!
The Party
When all the families arrived, we were given a tour, and the kids played a bit with all the LEGOs and other toys. Then we were invited to the party room. All the kids and their parents gathered around the table and each was given a LEGO helicopter robotics kit to work with. For the next hour and a half, Aaron Hagebak, the owner, guided everyone through the activity.
First, everyone was instructed to build a LEGO helicopter with their kit. All the instructions were simple and included in each kit.
When all the helicopters were built, the kids learned how to connect sensors and actually create their own coding program with motion and sound effects.
Here are the helicopters after the blades were programmed to spin faster and slower, depending on how you move the helicopter.
We learned so much at this party! And it was so easy to do – all the kids were able to do it, and they all received help whenever they needed it. TIP – I do recommend that parents come with to the parties. Though the staff were great here, it’s great to have one-on-one attention for each child, and for parents to have this special experience with their kids!
All the kids were so proud of their completed, interactive helicopters!
Afterwards, the kids got to create scenery for their helicopters. They chose a LEGO ninja to include and then built a LEGO background. Some of the kids built mountains, or a building for their helicopters.
Everyone posed with their completed projects! (Though they don’t get to keep them – that would be expensive – it was super fun to build them!)
Cupcakes!
Next it was cupcake time!
Snapology of Minneapolis partners with A Cupcake Social, which created the neatest LEGO cupcakes. Cost is $35.99 per dozen but it is SO worth it!
They offer the following choices:
Red Velvet Lego® Cupcakes (red velvet cake w/ cream cheese buttercream)
Cookies and Cream Lego® Cupcakes (chocolate cake w/ sweat cream/oreo buttercream)
Twist Lego® Cupcakes (any combination of chocolate and vanilla cake and buttercream)
We chose the Twist LEGO Cupcakes : 6 chocolate cake/vanilla frosting and 6 vanilla cake/chocolate frosting. They were actually square with the creamiest frosting and edible candy LEGOS on top. The kids LOVED them!
We had just enough time for presents, followed by some playtime in the Discovery Center.
All in all, it was an awesome birthday party that we’ll never forget!
What else should you know?
I highly recommend visiting the Snapology website and Facebook page to learn more and check out their list of upcoming events!
At this time they have a “Last Minute Holiday Drop & Shop” for parents this Friday, December 22nd, plus many workshops which are throughout the year and during winter break including “Snapology Ninjas,” “Battle Bots,” and “Adventures with Star Wars Workshop.”
I also mentioned Snapology of Minneapolis in my list of “Hidden Gems for Families in the Twin Cities” and on WCCO This Morning here:

My 6 1/2 year old son would LOVE this! Thanks for the info!
Looks like fun! It would be a great activity for days off school…
My son (who wants to be a NASA Robotics Engineer when he grows up) would love the Lego Robotics Party! It looks so cool!
Thank you for this opportunity!
The “awesome themed” party seems like it would be too short at 60 for kids to actually enjoy themselves and have cake, etc. Or is the 60 the LEGO time, not the whole party?
This looks so fun — my son would love this for his 7th birthday!!!
My daughter would love this!
Looks like a fun time!
What a cool space! I know a lot of kids who would just love to visit.
I had never heard of this place before, I don’t know how? It’s a great fit of my boys!
I have 2 little girls that would LOVE this place!
