Potbelly Sandwich Shop recently invited my family to visit their newest Twin Cities location at Woodbury City Place Shoppes, where they just celebrated their grand opening on September 26th! Located on a corner of this newly developing shopping center, we visited Potbelly on a quiet weeknight. We were greeted warmly by team members Zach, Emily and Bradley, night manager, who told us about their made-to-order toasty warm sandwiches, fresh-baked breads and even fresh-baked cookies (which of course we had to try).
Surprisingly, despite being a HUGE sandwich lover, I had actually never eaten at a Potbelly Sandwich Shop before, but I learned quickly how appropriate the name “Potbelly” is – we left absolutely stuffed yet very satisfied!
About Potbelly
Potbelly actually started out as an antique shop in Chicago back in 1977 and has grown to over 300 sandwich shops around the country and now even in London.
Potbelly’s menu includes a variety of signature sandwiches, salads and milkshakes (they even slide a cookie on the straw for the kids!). Their classics include their Farmhouse Salad (chicken, bacon, hard boiled egg, blue cheese, cucumbers, red onion), Lentil/Kale/Turkey Sausage soup and sandwiches loaded with thinly sliced deli meat, cheese and veggies on fresh baked bread loaves.
For bread, there are many options to choose from – you choose between Regular or Multigrain and in two sizes – Originals and BIG. They also have thin-cut (if you want less bread) and Flats.
Of course there also many options for beverages, chips and other side items like macaroni salad and coleslaw.
The prices are about $4.90 – 7.15 for a sandwich (depending on size) and $6.40 – 7.40 for a salad, and if you make it a meal, it’s easily $10 or more. Not the most frugal option, but when you do visit, it’s definitely worth it for the quality.
They do have an “Inside Scoop” newsletter you can sign up for with special offers that I recommend signing up for, like a FREE cookie on your birthday! You can also order online.
Our Experience
I ordered the Farmhouse Salad with Macaroni Salad and Root Beer. All Potbelly salads are made with a combination spinach, romaine and iceberg lettuce. The salad was huge for me and I took home half, but it was hearty and fresh and I enjoyed it with Buttermilk Ranch dressing.
My daughter ordered a hot turkey sub with chips and chocolate milk, and my son had a pizza sub with chips and chocolate milk. (Their pizza sub is made with Pepperoni, Meatball, Capicola, Marinara Sauce, Provolone Cheese, Mushrooms & Italian Seasoning.) My kids also shared a milkshake with little cookies on the straw!
And of course, we had to try one of their fresh-baked cookies – we split a super yummy, soft and chewy oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. (Well actually, I ate most of it while they were distracted with their fun milkshakes!)
In addition to oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, they have sugar cookies, chocolate brownie cookies and other goodies like dream bars and ice cream sandwiches. Cookies are $1.25 each (and they’re a good size) and ice cream sandwiches are $2.80.
Overall, my kids and I really enjoyed our meal at Potbelly in Woodbury at City Place Shoppes. Even as picky eaters, my kids devoured their food – a relief to this frugal mom who hates wasting money and food! My kids said afterward “The sandwich and milkshake were delicious – I loved them!”
Bradley shared with me how Potbelly is involved in their communities and there are two cool ways that groups can team up with Potbelly to raise funds- by hosting an event at a neighborhood shop, and by creating a unique shake and whenever someone orders it, Potbelly donates $.50 from each shake to your organization!
There are almost 20 Potbelly locations in the Twin Cities. Visit the Potbelly website to see their menu, learn more about what else they offer including catering, and to sign up for their newsletter!
