Kids Book Review: You Choose by Pippa Goodhart

I’m recommending a great, interactive and imaginative book for kids called “You Choose” by Pippa Goodhart and illustrated by Nick Sharratt.

I borrowed this book from our local library after the children’s librarian, a friend of ours, recommended it to me. She said she had to sneak it back to the library from her kids because they loved it so much!

Well, I can see why. My kids absolutely love this book! So much that I just ordered a copy for ourselves – something I don’t do often because we already have SO many kids books in the house. (Note: Amazon.com currently doesn’t seem to have new copies in stock, so I ordered one from a private seller on there. You may have to order a used copy but it’s worth it!)

The book is basically a big catalog of things for your kids to choose from to create their own fantasy life. It starts with “Where would you go?” and a picture of every habitat imaginable from desert to beach and a carnival to outer space. Then there are pictures of all kinds of people your kids can choose for family and friends, foods they can eat, houses they can live in, jobs they can do, beds they can sleep in, and much more.

My kids always get so excited when we look through it. Heidi shows me what she “chooses,” Thor points to what he “chooses,” and they ask me and daddy what we’d like. Then we tease each other “Daddy can sleep in the mushroom house!” “Thor can have a pirate as a friend!”

For the record, Heidi wants to live in the pink castle, have a fairy and a princess as friends, and she wants to be a ballerina. Thor wants to live in the gray castle, play with racing cars, and sleep in a rocket ship bed.

If you’re looking for a different kind of book for your kids for an upcoming birthday or special occasion, get this book! Or, see if you can find it at your local library (good luck getting your kids to return it when it’s due!).
