If you’re planning a trip to Sac County, Iowa, where you stay can make a big difference, especially if you’re trying to fit a lot into a short weekend.
During our recent visit to Sac County, my teens and I stayed at the Cobblestone Inn & Suites in Lake View, and it turned out to be a very convenient home base for exploring the area. We were there with several other bloggers from the Midwest to discover what Sac County had to offer (a lot!), and everyone enjoyed their stay.
The Cobblestone Inn & Suites was modern, comfortable and, most importantly for our short trip, close to so many of the places we wanted to visit.
A Convenient Location in Lake View
One of my favorite things about staying at the Cobblestone Inn was the location.
It’s right by Black Hawk Lake, and we were just a few minutes from many of the restaurants, attractions and outdoor activities we visited during our stay. That meant we could spend more of our limited weekend exploring and less time driving between stops.
We visited places around Lake View as well as Sac City and Auburn, and having a comfortable home base in Lake View made it easy to come back to the hotel when we needed a break.
For a short family getaway, I really appreciated that convenience.
Modern and Comfortable Rooms
The hotel has a modern feel and was a comfortable place for our family to relax between activities.
After spending the day exploring Sac County, it was nice to come back to the hotel, relax for a while and recharge before heading out again. The beds were comfortable, the hotel was quiet, and the front desk staff was helpful (I forgot some toiletry items which they happily provided for free).
When you’re traveling with kids or teens, having a comfortable place to unwind is important—especially when you’re packing a lot of activities into a couple of days.
Free Breakfast
One of the conveniences of staying at the Cobblestone Inn is the complimentary hot breakfast!
Having breakfast available at the hotel makes it easy to get something to eat before heading out for the day without having to make another stop first.
That can be especially helpful when you’re trying to get an early start for a day of exploring.
And it’s a hot breakfast buffet! They had a variety of options including eggs, sausages, waffles you could make, breads, cereal, yogurt and fruit.
Though we had planned breakfasts at local restaurants, we did grab some breakfast items to enjoy while waiting for our group. So it’s great for both a full sit-down meal or a quick breakfast on the run.
Fitness Center
The hotel also has a fitness center, which is a nice amenity if you want to fit in a workout while traveling. I used it one morning we were there. It’s not huge but it had what I needed.
Lake Access Right Behind the Hotel
One of the more unique features of this hotel is its access to Black Hawk Lake. The hotel has its own dock!
If you’re bringing your own boat, you can launch right behind the hotel, making it particularly convenient for visitors planning a boating or fishing trip to the lake.
For anyone who wants to spend more time enjoying Black Hawk Lake, being this close to the water is a definite perk. And there’s plenty of space in the hotel parking lot to park your boat if you have one.
We rented some kayaks on Black Hawk Lake during our visit, but if we had our own we could have just accessed the lake right there. The access makes it easy to incorporate water recreation into your weekend.
Close to Black Hawk Lake and Lake View Attractions
The hotel is a particularly convenient choice if you’re planning to explore Lake View and Black Hawk Lake.
During our visit, we were able to easily get to restaurants, ice cream, the lake and other local businesses. We also explored attractions in nearby Sac City, including the World’s Largest Popcorn Ball, historic buildings and the unique metal sculptures found around the area.
One of the things I liked about our Sac County trip overall was that we didn’t have to spend much time driving between everything we wanted to see.
The Cobblestone Inn & Suites fit nicely into that kind of trip.

For our family, the Cobblestone Inn & Suites works well as a home base for exploring Sac County.
