If you’ve ever been fascinated by the story of the Titanic, there’s a new experience in Minneapolis that you won’t want to miss. My family and I recently had the opportunity to preview Titanic: An Immersive Voyage, and it was such an amazing experience!
This isn’t your typical museum exhibit. From the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by the story of the Titanic through immersive technology, historical items, projections, and interactive experiences that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
A Truly Immersive Titanic Experience
When you walk in there are great photo opportunities, displays and interactive elements. We posed on the “bow of the ship” and on the stairs just like from the movie!
One of my favorite parts was the immersive theater experience. Instead of simply watching a screen, you’re surrounded by the story, with visuals and projections that make you feel like you’re right there.
I HIGHLY recommend you stay for the entire film – because it’s on continuous repeat, you’ll probably walk in at some point during the story. No matter what, take a seat somewhere and watch the whole thing. It was probably the most powerful part of the exhibit for me.
Throughout this attraction you’ll also find artifacts and items connected to the history of the ship, along with immersive video animations and 3D projections. There is so much to see that I definitely recommend taking your time as you walk through the exhibit.
The attention to detail really helps tell the story and gives you a better understanding of what life was like aboard the Titanic.
Don’t Miss the VR Experience
The VR experience was another highlight for us!
You actually walk through a submarine, descend toward the Titanic, and explore the ship as it appeared before the disaster. Being able to virtually move through the ship and see it in this way was really fascinating. Note: If you get really seasick easily you may not want to do it, but probably most can handle it.
My teens especially loved this.
It’s so state of the art and impressive but honestly is one of those experiences that’s difficult to fully explain until you’ve done it yourself. Don’t miss it!
A Moving Ending
One of the most memorable parts for me came at the end of the experience.
There is a beautiful glass cube displaying the names of the people who perished aboard the Titanic. After experiencing all of the technology and immersive elements throughout the exhibit, this quiet memorial was a powerful reminder that behind the famous story were real people and families.
Behind the Scenes
During our visit, I had the opportunity to meet Julie Gauthier, the Operations Project Manager, who told me more about everything that goes into bringing this experience from one location to another.
It’s pretty incredible to think about the amount of planning, equipment, technology, and coordination required to create an immersive experience like this—and then pack it all up and move it to the next city.

Is it for kids?
So honestly I felt it’s best for older kids and up. I don’t think younger kids will get much out of this. The visuals are interesting, but the displays are on the serious side (which isn’t surprising considering the story of the Titanic). Plus the music playing throughout is cinematic and grim, and all the information can be a lot over younger kids’ heads. There isn’t really anything interactive for younger kids here. Plus, I saw some families with kids in strollers go right through some parts like the immersive theater, which was probably the best part. Kids may enjoy the gift shop best to be honest.

My Take
A++++!
I really enjoyed this experience, and I think it’s a great option for families (mostly with older kids), couples (especially for the photo opportunities from the movie), history lovers, Titanic enthusiasts, or anyone looking for something different to do in Minneapolis.
The combination of history, immersive projections, storytelling, and VR makes this much more than simply looking at displays in a museum. Give yourself plenty of time to explore and take everything in—you’ll want to slow down and notice the details.
