If your family loved (or has been wanting to visit!) the brand-new Monsters on Vacation exhibit at Minnesota Children’s Museum, there’s another reason to plan a trip this month.
On Saturday, July 18th, the museum is hosting Monster Spa Day—a special event filled with calming, sensory-friendly activities that encourage kids to relax, recharge, and explore their emotions through play.

A Different Kind of Monster Adventure
When we recently visited Monsters on Vacation, my stepson had such a great time. He loved feeding the hungry tree monsters, dancing on the underwater disco floor, and exploring all of the hands-on activities throughout the exhibit.

One thing that really stood out to me was how thoughtfully the exhibit encourages children to recognize and express big feelings through imaginative play. As a parent to a child with Down syndrome, I also appreciate how welcoming and inclusive Minnesota Children’s Museum feels. It’s a place where kids of all abilities can explore, participate, and have fun in ways that work best for them.

Monster Spa Day builds on those same ideas by creating opportunities for kids to slow down, connect with their emotions, and enjoy calming sensory experiences.
What to Expect at Monster Spa Day
On Saturday, July 18th, from 10:00am to 3:00pm, families can enjoy a variety of special activities throughout the museum, including:
- Relaxing sound baths
- Yoga and Zumba lessons
- Hands-on sensory stations
- Monster breathing cards that encourage mindfulness
- A craft where kids can create their own comforting monster friend to take home
All activities are included with museum admission or membership, so you’ll also have full access to Monsters on Vacation and all of the museum’s permanent exhibits during your visit.
Why We Love It
One of my favorite things about Minnesota Children’s Museum is that every visit offers something new. Whether your kids are climbing through exhibits, dancing with friendly monsters, creating art, or practicing mindfulness, they’re learning through play without even realizing it.
I especially love that Monster Spa Day focuses on helping children understand that it’s okay to slow down, recharge, and take care of their emotions—something both kids and adults can benefit from.
