With the new year just starting, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I want to start fresh.
This past year I had a lot of highs, like amazing trips with my husband and family, and a few lows, like being in a car accident (I’m ok! Just annoyed that the other driver wasn’t looking). In addition, after my husband and I got married in 2023 (a second marriage for both of us), our family is still getting used to being a blended family. It’s exciting having a bigger family, but it also means adjusting to everyone else’s needs and quirks.
Feeling exhausted after a busy year, I’ve realized how important it is to take time to reflect. What went well? What didn’t? I’m learning to celebrate the wins, let go of the things that didn’t work out, and give myself some grace along the way.
For me, a reset often starts with clearing out the clutter—whether it’s in my house, my mind, or even my social media feeds. It feels so freeing to let go of the extra “stuff” and focus on what matters.
Once the clutter is gone, it’s easier to make small changes that really add up. I’m restocking my pantry with healthier options (and maybe saying goodbye to a few tempting snacks), prioritizing workouts that actually fit my schedule and energy levels, and carving out little rituals that help me feel grounded. Some quiet time at my computer in the morning before everyone else wakes up, or a few minutes of reading or journaling at night does wonders for my sanity. I’m enjoying some new books I got for Christmas as well as some good finds at the library. I’m also making more time for fun—whether it’s a family movie night, an afternoon of yummy baking, or just catching up with a friend.
Most importantly, I’m giving myself permission to dream. Whether it’s jotting down a bucket list or putting together a vision board, I’m letting myself get excited about what’s ahead. And I’m reminding myself that it doesn’t have to be perfect. Progress is better than perfection, and life’s too short to sweat the small stuff. This year, I’m focusing on what feels meaningful—loving my family, taking care of myself, and embracing the little joys along the way.
Here’s to a fresh start—you’ve got this, too!

Here are the 25 Ways and some thoughts:
Reflect on & Process the Past Year
Take time to review the past year’s highs and lows. Reflecting helps you celebrate your wins and learn from challenges, giving you a solid foundation for personal growth.
Heal Your Heart
Emotional wounds can linger if left unaddressed. Prioritize healing by journaling, seeking therapy, or connecting with loved ones to foster emotional resilience.
Forgive Yourself
Let go of guilt and self-criticism. Acknowledge your humanity and mistakes as part of growth, opening the door for self-compassion and progress.
Get Closure & Let It Go
Free yourself from lingering emotional baggage by seeking closure. Whether through conversations, meditation, or symbolic acts, letting go paves the way for new beginnings.
Declutter Your Home
A clutter-free environment promotes mental clarity and peace. Donate, recycle, or toss items you no longer need to create a space that inspires productivity.
Follow and Unsubscribe
Curate your digital and social media feeds to reflect your current interests and goals. Unsubscribe from content that no longer serves you and follow accounts that uplift you.
Simplify Your Life
Streamline routines and commitments to focus on what truly matters. Simplifying reduces stress and creates space for joy and creativity.
Healthify Your Pantry
Transform your fridge and pantry by swapping processed foods for whole, nutrient-rich options. A well-stocked, healthy pantry supports better meal choices and overall wellness.
And you don’t need to spend a lot to eat healthy! I shop at ALDI, Mike’s Discount Foods, Fare for All and Ruby’s Pantry for a variety of options.
Make More Time for Fun
Life is meant to be enjoyed! Schedule time for hobbies, adventures, or simply unwinding with loved ones to recharge your spirit.
Make More Time to Work Out
Regular exercise boosts physical and mental health. Block time in your calendar for workouts to make fitness a non-negotiable part of your routine.
Create a Morning Ritual
Start your day with intention by crafting a morning ritual. Whether it’s journaling, meditating, or stretching, these moments set a positive tone for the day ahead.
Create an Evening Ritual
Wind down effectively with an evening ritual. Activities like reading, gratitude journaling, or practicing mindfulness promote restful sleep and mental relaxation.
Define Your Goals for Next Year
Identify what you want to achieve in the coming year. Clear goals provide direction and motivation, setting the stage for success.
Identify the Reasons for Your Goals
Understanding why your goals matter creates emotional investment. This clarity keeps you going when things get tough!
Create a Realistic Plan
Break down your goals into actionable steps. A detailed yet flexible plan helps you stay on track without feeling overwhelmed. I prefer to write things down on paper but there are apps and programs that can help with this.
Create an Achievable Quarterly Plan
Divide your year into quarters and set specific, manageable objectives. Quarterly plans keep you focused while allowing room for adjustments.
Create a Simplified Monthly Plan
At the start of each month, prioritize key tasks and milestones. A simplified monthly plan helps you maintain progress without overcommitting.
Create Realistic Weekly & Daily To-Do Lists
Plan your week with achievable tasks and break them into daily to-do lists. This approach ensures steady progress and reduces stress. Plus it’s a nice boost when you can cross things off your lists!
Make Meaningful Time for Relationships
Nurture connections with family and friends by setting aside quality time for them. Building strong relationships adds joy and meaning to your life.
Create a Vision Board
Visualize your dreams by creating a vision board. This can be a fun reminder of your hopes and dreams that keeps you inspired and focused.
Make a Bucket List
Write down the experiences and adventures you want to have. A bucket list fuels excitement and encourages you to live life to the fullest. Create one with your family too!
Create Healthy New Habits
Identify habits that align with your goals and implement them gradually. Consistency is key to integrating positive changes into your daily life.
Create a Wellness Plan
A holistic wellness plan addresses physical, mental, and emotional health. Include activities like exercise, nutrition, and self-care practices that fit your needs.
Add Accountability
Share your goals with a trusted friend, coach, or community. Accountability partners provide encouragement and keep you motivated.
Give Yourself Grace & Enjoy Your Life
Remember to be kind to yourself as you navigate life’s ups and downs. Embrace imperfection, celebrate progress, and savor the journey.
