Who is Onionhead? What is this about?
Onionhead’s Revenge is a haunted house attraction at the Mall of America. You walk through it and explore all kinds of spooky scenes.
According to local legend, “Onionhead” is the cruel nickname forced upon a young man from Slidell, Louisiana, who was brutally murdered by a vigilante mob after being wrongly accused for the murder of a young woman. Consumed by rage, the assailants hacked his body into 13 pieces and scattered them in a nearby cemetery.
Swearing vengeance, his mother put a hex on the townspeople who took her son. In the months following, those responsible for Onionhead’s murder were each victims of gruesome deaths.
Locals still report sightings of a monstrosity, hideously stitched together, stalking the cemetery… and out for revenge.

Our experience
We had the fast passes which I do recommend. We went with another group – a mom and her 3 kids. They were younger than this place recommends, but they seemed to handle it well – at least until we got separated.
There were many rooms and characters in this place. We were brought – or lured, I should say – from one room to the next, then we were kind of on our own. We tried to stay together, but it was difficult. I got separated from the girls and never found them until after.
And this place is huge! It goes on and on. There’s a room with a jail, and a crazy-looking prisoner in it trying to get out…then after you pass by, well – I’ll just say, don’t look behind you! These characters are very sneaky.
Other rooms include:
- Tree of Whispers (this thing was creepy)
- Cemetery
- Room of doors
- Vern’s Bedroom (and Vern’s secret room)
- Path of Bones
- And of course…Onionhead’s House
- Plus many more
The characters here are everywhere – and appear out of nowhere, as well as behind you. They get close to you but don’t touch you, and you can’t touch them. But we were still terrified!
At the end you meet Onionhead…and you will want to run!
Take advantage of the bar (with both alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages) and stay awhile!
