Minnesota is Still the #2 Best State for Summer Road Trips, According to Study

A couple of years ago, a report came out from WalletHub about the best and worst states for road trip travel, and Minnesota was rated the #2 best state in the country.

And now again in 2024, it’s been rated #2 again!

WalletHub compared the 50 U.S. states based on 32 key metrics including number of attractions, road conditions, costs and more.

Minnesota is the only midwest state to make the top 5 – again!

Why is Minnesota on the list? For several reasons.

Minnesota is great for people who want to be outdoors because it has the fifth-highest spendings per capita on parks and recreation. It also has the fourth-most fairs and festivals per capita during the summer.

Driving in Minnesota is considered very safe, and not overly expensive. Camping, hotels, gas prices and car repair are among the lowest cost in the country.

The report also states that this summer, 75% of American adults plan to take some sort of road trip, with around 33% planning to travel more than 250 miles from home.
