
In years past there were fun places to visit in the Twin Cities on Mother’s Day weekend where moms and grandmas get in FREE. This year there are mostly events that are free for everyone! Of course, you could be like me and be just fine napping in bed all day! But if you’re looking for family fun, here are some ideas:

Mother’s Day Plant a Pot! Saturday 9:00am – 1:00pm. All Fleet Farm locations. FREE KIDS ACTIVITY! Don’t miss our annual FREE Mother’s Day Plant a Pot! Join us on Saturday, May 11th from 9AM – 1PM to plant a flower in a pot for mom! This creative activity is open to ALL ages and is at ALL stores, so come in and create your very-own personal gift for Mother’s Day.
Build Your Own Bouquet! Saturday 11:00am – 4:00pm. At Twin Cities Harley-Davidson, Lakeville. Join us at TCHD to build a Mother’s Day bouquet for your mom, with your mom, or for yourself (or really, for whomever you’d like)!! Taco truck, giveaway and more.
Como-Harriet Streetcar Line. Moms ride free on Sunday, May 12th (12:30 – 8:30pm).
Como Zoo. Free! No reservations needed.
Mother’s Day Bonsai Show. 10:00am – 6:00pm. May 11 & 12. Como Zoo & Conservatory, St. Paul.
Fishing – It’s Take-a-Mom Fishing Weekend! Moms can fish free without a license this weekend both Saturday and Sunday. During the weekend, mothers can fish only for species that have open fishing seasons. (For residents of Minnesota.)
Landmark Center – Sunday, 1:00pm – 3:00pm. The annual Mother’s Day Saint Paul Civic Symphony concert is back, and is the perfect way to spend time with the mothers in your life. Free.
Minneapolis Institute of Art. It’s Family Day on Sunday, May 12th from 10:00am – 5:00pm. The theme is “Shape of Time.”
SeaQuest Roseville – ALL Moms get FREE Admission Saturday, May 11th and Sunday, May 12th. Just mention this deal for the FREE Mom Ticket. (This is also valid at other SeaQuest locations outside of MN.)
Walker Art Center. Sunday is Sensory Friendly Sunday from 8:00am – 11:00am. Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. Sensory Friendly Sunday is a monthly free event designed for kids, teens, and adults with sensory processing differences, autism spectrum disorder, or developmental disabilities.
Sales & Shopping
Friends School Plant Sale – May 10-12. Minnesota State Fair Grandstand. The Friends School Plant Sale is a fund-raiser for the Friends School of Minnesota, a small Quaker K – 8 school in Saint Paul. This three-day sale, almost entirely run by volunteers, offers more than 2,100 plant varieties at affordable prices.
Minneapolis Farmer’s Market and St. Paul Farmer’s Market are open all weekend!
Other Ideas for Fun (Not Free)
Check out a nature center, park, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary (free but parking is not).
