Did you know that there are different things on sale each month of the year?
My Month to Month Shopping Guide lists the best items to buy each month to save money, and here I’m highlighting what to buy – and skip- in January!
Here is what I recommend buying in January:
January 2024
White sales
Right now you can get the largest savings of the year on table linens, bedding and towels.
Vacation packages
Airlines and hotels seek business after the travel peak in December
Calendars and planners
These typically are at least 50% off now!
Gym memberships
These are discounted in early January as people try to make losing weight and getting in shape a New Year’s resolution. But gyms are also busy in January for this same reason. If you want to join a gym, now is the best time for cost.
Not sure about joining a gym? I recommend Minnesota-based Get Healthy U TV – you can stream workouts anywhere and it’s only $.65 a year! They also have a free option.
Fitness equipment, DVDs, weight-loss products, health foods
These go on sale for the same reason as gym memberships – New Year’s resolutions to get healthy!
Football game watching supplies:
These include burgers, bratwursts, chicken wings, barbecue sauce, pizza, condiments. Stores are featuring sales on these – check store flyers too.
TVs
Best Buy, Amazon and others are discounting TVs for the Super Bowl! An employee at Best Buy told me that TV are cheaper now than they are during the holiday season.
Valentine’s Day candy and gifts
It’s coming and the store shelves are full of them now. Don’t wait until it’s picked over!
Or just make your own valentine gift like this:
Semi-annual sales at Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret!
These two stores have their semi-annual sales right after Christmas into January, and also in June. Stock up for cheap (well, cheaper) now!
What NOT to Buy
Toys
Prices generally aren’t their best right now, if you can wait. The Christmas season sales are over and the next sales probably won’t come for at least another month.
