Amazon Prime is getting more expensive this month. Last week it was announced that they are increasing Prime membership rates. The last time they increased rates was 2018 – typically it happens every 4 years or so, so I guess it was time! Though still a bummer.
New signups go up in price February 18th.
If you’re a current member, your price will go up after March 25th.
Basically, the price of the monthly Prime membership will increase from $12.99 to $14.99/month, and the price of the annual Prime membership will increase from $119 to $139/year.
Prime Student memberships will increase from $6.49 to $7.49/month, and the price of the annual membership will increase from $59 to $69/year.
Qualifying EBT and government assistance rates will increase from $5.99 to $6.99/month.
How to get Amazon Prime for Less
If you aren’t a member but were thinking of signing up, I recommend signing up for an annual membership before February 18th so you can lock in the $119 rate!
If you are a member and pay for your membership monthly, I recommend paying annually and changing it before the rate goes up. That’s because if you pay monthly you’ll be paying $180 a year, but if you pay annually it’s $139. You can save $41!
If you are a member and pay annually, you can buy a one-year gift membership right now before rates go up February 18th. Then apply that to your own account before yours expires! (When it asks for the email of the person you’re gifting the membership to, just use your own!)
Here are some ways to save year-round.

Hi. My Amazon Prime membership doesn’t renew till November. Can I buy the One year gift membership, and redeem it now? Or wait till November redeem the gift ?
Hi Tina! From what I understand, you can buy the gift membership now, enter your own email as the recipient’s email, and hold onto it until right before your current membership expires, even if it’s not until November. Make sure your payment settings are NOT set to auto-renew. Then cancel right before it expires and apply the gift membership to your own account.
