Head to Midtown Global Market in Minneapolis for a Kwanzaa Celebration all week long! It’s from Sunday, December 26th through Friday, December 31st and it’s free and open to everyone.
Here’s the schedule and some things you can expect:
First day of Kwanzaa – Sunday, Dec 26th
12 – 3 p.m. Live music by Elliot, crafts, and Black entrepreneurial Pop UP with a variety of vendors including New Start Fashion, Cultural Wellness Center and others offering local handcrafted items, clothing, paintings, candles, and other exciting items.
1:30 p.m. 10-year-old African American author, Zephaniah Martin, will read aloud from his book entitled “Jaheem’s First Kwanzaa.” Beautifully illustrated by Bilal Karaca, “Jaheem’s First Kwanzaa” brings relevance to Kwanzaa from a child’s point of view and connecting this special holiday to someone he loved. Zephaniah Martin was honored as the 2021 winner of the Youth Writing Competition sponsored by Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute.
Tuesday, Dec. 28th
12 – 2 p.m. Readings by Elder James the Poet
Wednesday, Dec 29th
5 – 7 p.m. Brother Ghana & Brother Asè Djembe Drum performance
Thursday, Dec. 30th
12 – 2 p.m. Reading by Elder James the Poet
5 – 7 p.m. Performance by Art of Dance
Friday, Dec. 31st
5 – 7 p.m. The final day of Kwanzaa celebration will coincide with their New Year’s Eve family celebration. All ages are welcome to come for musical entertainment and an early countdown and confetti throw at 6:30 p.m. !
