Got an infant or child car seat to get rid of? Well, I found two ways to do so this month in the Twin Cities for free (or almost free)!
AAA Car Seat Recycling
AAA is offering car seat recycling from September 18-22 from 9-5 at various Minnesota locations!
There’s no cost but they are requesting a voluntary $5 donation. In exchange you get a free $5 food or beverage coupon!

Target’s Car Seat Trade-In Program
From September 10 – 23, you can recycle used car seats – and for FREE!
Target stores are hosting a car seat collection program to help residents reduce household clutter without sending waste to landfills. All car seats collected through this program will be recycled through TerraCycle so that each component will see a second life.
Here’s what you do:
- Bring your car seats to your local Target store (search online for participating locations near you)
- Look for Target’s car seat collection box in the front of the store or in the baby/kids floor pad section.
- Turn in your car seat (all brands will be accepted) and you’ll get a coupon for 20% off the purchase of a new one!
After the recycling program ends, TerraCycle will separate the different components of the car seats (cloth elements, plastics, metals, etc.) and process them for use in other products.
