As a lifelong musician (and church musician), I am excited to share a Christmas concert event designed for families with little ones (how many do you find like that?) coming up this Saturday, December 10th at 9:30am & 11:00am!
Clap, wiggle and sing along to your favorite carols at VocalEssence’s “Star of Wonder,” a 45-minute family holiday concert. Sit up close and experience the wonder of choral singing (maybe even for the first time). Pillows, baby bottles and teddy bears welcome!
The Star of Wonder concert also includes a piece from the latest community outreach program from VocalEssence, the Lullaby Project, a partnership with Carnegie Hall. Teen moms at Longfellow Alternative High School have been working with visiting composers and VocalEssence conductors and singers to express their hopes and dreams in musical form. According to research, the experience of writing a lullaby promotes bonding with a baby—a key predictor in the future success of children. The work of the Lullaby Project’s young mothers culminates in the recording and performance of their compositions by VocalEssence singers.
