Today our family went to the annual Discover Aviation Days event at the Anoka County Airport in Blaine. We also attended last year and it’s a lot of fun. The admission is FREE – they only ask for a parking donation to cover event expenses (you choose the amount – we gave $5).
There are LOTS of aircraft to see – experimental, military, civil and more. You can even sit in or look inside some. There are also aircraft & helicopter rides. Someone said three of them went together and it cost them $120 total for an 8-minute ride, so it doesn’t sound cheap but I suppose it’s also not often you get to go for a private aircraft ride.
There are many exhibits and vendors, as well as bouncy houses and activities for kids. Kids can get an unlimited bouncy house wristband for $4. Aircraft fly overhead every hour (though I think one forgot to toot in this picture I took – hee hee).
Food is available, as well – there are various vendors offering hot dogs, popcorn, mini donuts, etc, and there is a main eating area where you can buy an adult meal for around $8 and a kid’s meal for just under $5. Pancakes and sausages are served in the morning, and burgers, hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches are served for lunch with sides (cookie, chips, coleslaw & a drink). We weren’t that hungry but got an adult meal and shared it because the food on the grill smelled (& was!) so good!
If you and/or your kids like airplanes, go check it out! It did rain a bit when we were there but thankfully there are indoor areas to enjoy including the eating area that leads into an entire aircraft museum. When we left our 5-year-old Heidi said “I had fun at the airport today!” Don’t miss it!
